• 靑春이란 人生의 어느 期間을 말하는 것이
  아니라 마음의 狀態를 말한다.
  그것은 장밋빛 뺨, 앵두 같은 입술, 하늘거리는
  姿態가 아니라 强靭한 意志, 豊富한 想像力,
  불타는 熱情을 말한다.
  
  靑春이란 人生의 깊은 샘물에서 솟아나는 新鮮한
  精神, 유약함을 물리치는 勇氣, 安易함을 뿌리치는
  冒險心을 의미한다.
  때로는 이십의 靑年보다 육십이 된 사람에게
  靑春이 있다.
  나이를 먹는다고 해서 우리가 늙는 것은 아니다.
  理想을 잃을 때 비로소 늙는 것이다.
  
  歲月은 우리의 주름살을 늘게 하지만,
  熱情을 가진 마음을 시들게 하지는 못한다.
  苦惱, 恐怖, 失望 때문에 氣力이 땅으로 들어갈
  때 비로소 마음이 시드는 것이다.
  
  예순 살이든 열여섯 살이든 모든 사람의
  가슴속에는 놀라움에 대한 끌리는 마음,
  젖먹이 아이와 같은 未知에 대한 끝없는 探究心,
  삶에서 歡喜를 얻고자 하는 熱望이 있는 법이다.
  그대와 나의 가슴에는 남에게 잘 보이지 않는
  그 무엇이 간직되어 있다.
  아름다움과 希望, 歡呼와 勇氣를 잃지 않고,
  永遠의 世界에서 오는 힘을 상실하지 않는 한
  그대는 젊음을 간직할 것이다.
  
  靈感이 끊어져 精神이 冷笑라는 눈에 파묻히고,
  悲嘆이란 얼음에 갇힌 사람은 비록 나이가
  스물이라 할지라도 이미 늙은이와 다름이 없다.
  그러나 머리를 높이 들고 希望이란 波濤를
  탈 수 있는 限, 그대는 여든일지라도 永遠한
  靑春의 所有者일 것이다.

• Youth is not a time of life.
  It is a state of mind;
  It is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees;
  It is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination,
  vigor of the emotions;
  It is the freshness of the deep springs of life.  
  
  Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over
  timidity of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease.
  This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty.
  Nobody grows old merely by a number of years.
  We grow old by deserting our ideals.
  
  Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm
  wrinkles the soul.
  Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit
  back to dust.
  
  Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human being`s heart
  the lure of wonder, the unfailing child-like appetite of what`s
  next, and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your
  heart and my heart there is a wireless station;
  So long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer,
  courage and power from men and from the Infinite,
  so long are you young.
  
  When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with
  snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are
  grown old, even at twenty, but as long as your aerials are up,
  to catch the waves of optimism, there is hope you may die
  young at eighty.
